Afuwa

2015_07_31_Afuwa_image_smallerAfuwa is a Guyanese-born artist who uses constructions
of identity to question everything. She lives, works and loves on unceded Tsleil-Waututh, Musqueam, Squamish
and Coast Salish territories, and strives to honour her land, spirit and blood ancestors in her practice.

Her work has been featured in Briarpatch Magazine alongside articles on gender
and sexuality, police violence against Black youth, and Indigenous solidarity; in the Love As A Radical Act forum at  thefeministwire.com; and in West Coast Line and subTerrain magazines.

She was the 2013 Visiting Artist at the Liu Institute for Global Issues, UBC, and was nominated to be one of Vancouver’s Remarkable Women of 2014. Afuwa is currently a member of two collectives: Gallery Gachet and Dance Troupe Practice; her work, which  can be  found at  afuwa.wordpress.com, re-imagines connections throughout the Atlantic diaspora.
