Pierre Leichner

Pierre Leichner describes himself as an interdisciplinary research artist. He is a full-time artist since finishing His MFA studies in 2011. His practice has evolved to be a composite of socially engaged art, environmental art, and installation art. He uses various mediums as needed to explore an issue and because of his interest in creating multi-sensory works to better understand and communicate. He works on two intertwined tracts: a socially /politically engaged one and one of personal inquiry. He believes art has lost its place to science, business, and entertainment as a way of knowing. Most of his research focuses on our environment, and mental health.

He is on the board of Gallery Gachet, the Community Arts Council of Vancouver and on the Emily Carr University Alumni Senate. He is the founding artistic director of the Vancouver Outsider Arts Festival now in its 5th year.

Since 2011 he has participated 17 solo shows and in 45 group shows and presented at 20 art conferences.
